Gerald Lachter Scholarship Fund
Overview
This fund exists to honor the memory of Dr. Gerald Lachter, our dear friend and colleague.
Each year at the Long Island Behavior Analysis Conference in early December one promising individual will receive a grant to help further his or her education in Behavior Analysis. This individual must be enrolled in either the LIU Post or Queens College Masters Level or Doctorate Level Behavior Analysis Program. The fund is held and administered by The ELIJA Foundation, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization. Donations made through the link above are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and will be directed towards the Gerald Lachter Scholarship Fund.
A Wonderful Person
Gerald Lachter PhD., BCBA-D, Chair of the Department of Psychology at LIU Post was a kind and humble person and committed to science of behavior analysis. When ELIJA started LIBAC and its networking events, Gerry was excited for the advancement and promotion of behavior analysis on Long Island and was always the first to sign up to all the events we held. Gerry never missed an ELIJA event. He was a dear friend and a wonderful colleague.
Timeline
For as long as the fund will allow, The ELIJA Foundation will award a grant to a promising individual with the following timeline:
The award recipient will be at the annual Long Island Behavior Analysis Conference each year, which takes place in early December.

Faculty or Self-Nomination Scholarship Guidelines
The ELIJA Foundation is pleased to announce an amazing opportunity for YOU to help support students advancing their degrees in behavior analysis. Faculty and candidates are now able to nominate one deserving individual to receive up to a $1,500 scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year! This scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Gerald Lachter, a leader in the field who was committed to supporting young individuals in advancing their careers and impact to the science of behavior analysis.
Applicants must meet the following scholarship criteria:

The student must be enrolled full time at either LIU Post or Queens College in a Masters or Doctorate Level Behavior Analysis program and have at least a 2.75 GPA. Candidates must be in good standing (not under judicial sanction from the university).

Nominations must come from past (or confirmed future) faculty at Queens College or LIU post.

Students who have already been awarded a grant cannot be nominated.

The student may not be related to the faculty member who nominates them.

Faculty can only nominate 1 student per academic year.

The faculty member must nominate a student they believe will make a great contribution to the community and represent the program (and faculty) to the highest standards.
Applications should include the following (Application is below these instructions):

Purpose Statement: Please include candidate’s career goals and what led them to study Behavior Analysis. Also include any applicable professional or volunteer experience in the field of Behavior Analysis or special education.

One letter of support from a faculty member at LIU Post or Queens College, or supervisor from a current or past job/practicum in a related field.

Date expected to complete the degree in Behavior Analysis.
Deadline: The deadline to apply is November 22, 2023.
