ELIJA Transitional Programs and Services (TPS)

Mission

The mission of the ELIJA TPS is to provide a multiyear comprehensive behaviorally based scientifically validated curriculum for individuals with autism. TPS supports individuals throughout their lifespan and focuses on vocational skills, life skills, cognitive and social skills and community integration with the ultimate goal of preparing and supporting individuals to live and work as independently as possible.

Purpose

ELIJA’s Transition Program and Services is aimed at designing unique customized programming based on an individual’s valued outcomes. We support individuals with autism in local colleges and in competitive employment. We also provide vocational training in the areas of workplace behavior, such as appropriate communication and navigating the social environment at work.

Program Offerings

Vocational Assessment
ELIJA TPS provides comprehensive Level I, II, and III vocational assessments to evaluate vocational strengths, areas that need improvement, preferences and special interests. Direction is provided to the individual and his/her family based on the results of the assessment. Vocational assessments can be conducted annually, semi-annually and quarterly. Individuals who are enrolled full time in TPS will benefit from ongoing assessment and re-evaluation.

Provision of Support Staff
ELIJA TPS provides highly trained instructors and support staff in 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1 ratios depending on the needs of the individuals.

Program Placement
ELIJA TPS realizes that the end result of vocational assessment and training is job placement and community integration. Upon meeting criteria, (mastery of core competencies) ELIJA staff will facilitate placement by assisting with resume developing, job searching, interview preparation, and communication skills.

Career Coaching
ELIJA TPS provides career coaches to prepare and support individuals in their part-time or full-time job placements, in volunteer or paid work experiences. Career coaches will coordinate visits with the individual and the employer.

Employer Training
ELIJA TPS provides didactic and hands on training to employers who wish to learn about how to support individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities in a mainstream work setting.

Transition to Community Life (TCL) Program

ELIJA’s Transition to Community Life (TCL) Program offers a caring community for adolescents and young adults with complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities. TCL is committed to developing student competence and confidence in academic, social and independent living skills. These skills help graduates go on to lead successful, self-sufficient and fulfilling lives, creating a new future – for themselves, their families, our community, and our economy.

There are two main components of TCL:

35 Course Sequence for Independent Living and Job Internship/Social Enterprise

35 Course Sequence for Independent Living
Throughout the 12 month program, participants work on employability and functional skills. The course consists of 2 tracks held at LIU Post in Greenville. Students are assigned tracks based on the instructor’s initial assessment of skills. Coursework is designed around these focus areas:

  • Social Competencies
  • Learning and Thinking
  • Independent Living
  • Government and Law

Internship/Social Enterprise

ELIJA’s transition programs and services (TPS) provides opportunities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to participate in social enterprise and internships in local businesses in the community. Adults gain general employment skills and work history in real revenue producing businesses.

  • ELIJA Farm CSA
    • The ELIJA Farm CSA provides training in agriculture, inventory control and distribution.
  • Just cAUse Granola Enterprise
    • Just cAUse granola provides training in inventory control, product development, order fulfillment and sales.
