Each October, we hold our Annual Unmasking Autism Masquerade Gala to support The ELIJA Foundation and honor advocates in the autism community. Hundreds of guests arrive at The Carltun dressed in costume for a night of mystery, dancing, a premium cocktail hour and formal dinner. A Chinese and silent auction featuring luxury items to top off the night!
2019 Honorees
Champion of Hope
JoAnn Scanlon, MS, BCBA, LBA
JoAnn received her BS in Business Administration from SUNY Albany and her MS in Special Education from Adelphi University. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a NYS Licensed Behavior Analyst. JoAnn is the co-owner and Executive Director of MKSA LLC, an agency that provides services to children with autism and other developmental delays. She has worked in this field for the last 20 years as a therapist, consultant and administrator. JoAnn is currently an adjunct professor at Adelphi University’s Early Childhood Special Education Program. She has been an active member of both the Nassau County and the Suffolk County Early Intervention (LEICC) Committee on Autism for 16 years and chairs the Suffolk committee. She has conducted numerous presentations and workshop for parents and professionals; school districts and the Departments of Health. JoAnn serves on the Board of Directors of the ELIJA School, Farm, Foundation and TPS. She volunteers her time to various organizations in support of children with special needs, and professional organizations striving to improve the quality services provided to those children. She is also the parent of an adult son with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Madison Katherine Poll
Madison Poll is currently a Junior at Friends Academy. She graduated from the Green Vale School in 2017, where she went for her elementary years. Madison has a love for sports. She is a 3-seasoned Varsity athlete, which include soccer, track and lacrosse. Madison spends her summers lifeguarding, as well as teaching swim lessons and being a part of a swim team. What Madison will say is her most memorable part of each summer is spending time each week at the ELIJA School. For the past three summers Madison has had the opportunity to work with students and grow a love and passion that drives her to come back each year. Madison resides in Laurel Hollow with her mom, dad, sister Alex and dog Coco.
